Since 1976, Thomas Burke has been a Washington State
licensed attorney and has provided a range of legal services in Washington and other states for over 30 years.Tom
has extensive civil litigation experience at both trial court and appellate
levels with an emphasis on personal injury and business related issues
including labor relations and employment litigation involving collective
bargaining issues and employment disputes.Tom has also handled a variety of real estate matters
involving boundary, title, and easement disputes.Tom has represented hundreds of clients in personal injury
matters arising from auto accidents, medical malpractice, and nursing homes. In addition, Tom has also represented selected clients in misdemeanor and felony criminal matters.
Tom also advises non-profit and public service programs in
development and organization.Tom
served as the General Counsel to the World Karate Federation, the International
Federation for the sport of karate, Pan American Karate Federation, and the USA
National Karate-do Federation the National Governing Body for the sport of
karate in the United States.Tom's
sport law practice has included appearances before the Court of Arbitration for
Sport located in Switzerland.
Tom has served as litigation counsel to the King County
Guardian ad Litem and CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) programs which
services the needs of allegedly abused and neglected children in the court
system.Tom has served the needs
of these children since the late 1970's and his volunteer work has led to
awards such as the David W. Soukup Award for Outstanding Litigation Services to
Children.Tom currently sits on
the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Washington State CASA
Association, and has served as Board Chair for the organization.Tom is now serving his third term on the State Court Improvement Project
Supervisory Committee and also serves on the Justice in Jeopardy Subcommittee
for Child Representation.
In addition to representing clients, Tom has also been a contributing author for the Employment Law Deskbook published
by the Washington State Association for Justice. He wrote the chapter
discussing Statutes of Limitation.
